Where "Super Heroes" Walk The Street

Phoenix Jones is a man who likes leather .... he's also a good citizen and loves his home city of Seattle.

"If police aren’t here, criminals feel free to run wild in my city," the father of two said, "and I’m not going to stand for it."

So like the Green Hornet or perhaps the Batman he dons his tights, a mask and a skin-tight rubber suit with a bulletproof vest and patrols the streets .... a lone defender of the streets, upholding justice.

Unfortunately, while Mr Jones is well meaning, his superhero skills are less than well honed, and his latest scrape got him into a spot of bother when he got his ass whupped ..... and had his nose broken while trying to protect his beloved city. He bravely (or stupidly) tried to break up a fight with a man who was armed with a gun.

Phoenix Jones - Fights With Fists Only

Phoenix is a part of the Rain City Superhero movement, a group of superheroes that patrols the streets of Seattle. The group includes himself 'Phoenix Jones', and 'Buster Doe', 'Thorn', 'Green Reaper', 'Gemini', 'No Name', 'Catastrophe', 'Thunder 88' and 'Penelope'.

This latest incident has prompted police to urge him and the other self-styled saviours to hang up their capes before anyone gets seriously hurt ...... as one detective asked ‘Does Superman get his ass kicked?. These people should not be called superheroes.’

But last word to Mr Jones who insists that he only endangered his life ‘with a reason and a purpose’ and claims he and other caped crusaders all had a military or martial arts background and knew what they were facing.

He and the others across the US are part of national organization, Real Life Superheroes, whose website states: “Superheroes have historically been an instrument in relaying pro social values. Not surprisingly, the same values that make a hero today are the same in the late 1930s when the first comic book superheroes were being invented: trustworthiness, bravery, selflessness, and passion. These hallmarks of fictional iconic characters are the same that the Real Life Superheroes strive to embody.”

What with the spate of Spiderman and Ninja escapades last year, it looks like the age of the 'Super Heroes' maybe dawning again.... albeit in wrinkly tights.

  1. Brilliant stuff .... will they set up a 'World League For Justice" again like the 1940's heroes did?

    Where do I sign up?

  2. Superhero fiction is adolescent wish-fulfilment fantasy. There's a word for people who are unable to differentiate between fantasy and reality. Insanity. Are Americans nuts?

  3. Ah I feel safe knowing there are super-heroes taking care of business and not a bunch of pocket linning, power crazy nutters armed with weapons. I await the Bat-signal on the moon, and shall be ironing my cape until the world calls forth for a saviour.
